Definition The Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC) is intended to be a standard classification of productive economic activities in the country. Its main purpose is to provide a set of activity categories that can be utilized for the collection and presentation of statistics according to such activities. Therefore, PSIC aims to present this set of activity categories in such a way that entities can be classified according to the economic activity they carry out. Defining the categories of PSIC is as much as possible linked with the way the economic processes are organized in units and the way this process is described in economic statistics.

An industry is defined as the set of all production units engaged primarily in the same or similar kinds of productive economic activity.
